The Hindus have a remarkable idea they call Maya. Maya literally means Play. Play is more than a game. It also means looseness, a chaotic bend to Nature. The term also speaks to theatrics (e.g., Republican lineup of Presidential hopefuls).

This notion of Play is not just in the Hindu religion. It is also evident in the Bible, where in the “Book of Proverbs” it is said of Wisdom and Understanding, “She is at play throughout the world.” Play can be taken in a number of ways: (1) Play as in a looseness of action (i.e., chaos, a cosmic bottom-up and not randomness); (2) Theatrics (for comedy, drama and horror, consider the major news outlets) and (3) Games and children’s play which is often make believe or pretend (theatrics) and spontaneous (off the cuff and in the moment).

The Play of Nature in science’s chaos theory entails everything affecting everything else. Thus, how Nature works is primarily not top down. The lion is only King of the jungle until a microscopic bug takes him down. Thus, Nature is more bottom-up than top-down.

Thus is chaos. Chaos reflects a bottom — up world. In the above image, did your attention go to the guy holding the sign saying “Rump?” Is this a humorous ploy or play upon Donald’s being considered by the artist as an “a*s”? I would say, “probably.” Such is the artistic temperament! I love it though I worry about ad hominem arguments in public discourse!

Is this a Freudian slip (a slip of the tongue that seems to be an accident yet speaks to the wisdom of our deeper consciousness, or what Freud called the unconscious)? Thus is Maya, or Play. Just look at those faces, what do you see? Why am I so fascinated by this image? This image is not real. Yet, it’s saying something. What does it say to you? Does it make you cry or laugh? Is this manifestation of Maya a drama, comedy or horror show?

Our actions in this play do matter. So, yes, chaos does teach us that our behaviors matter. It is best we be responsible, meaning being responsive to what’s going on.

Chaos is also in top-down rule. It’s just that the upper classes and politicians dictate to us how we live for their sake because they are control freaks. They hate chaos and its implications for bottom up rule.

In essence, the top 1-5% don’t like the empowerment of everything else on this planet (e.g., the trees contribution to the atmosphere) and thus want to control the world for the sake of their egotistic needs and monetary rewards. These rewards are hallucinations. For example, the dollar bill isn’t worth the paper it’s printed upon. Indeed, we may as well use it for toilet paper. It’s an illusion, a lie, if you prefer. And, with modern credit, our economy is nothing less than dots and dashes on a computer chip. Pull the plug and it’s all gone. And we call this sanity?

Regarding chaos, consider the following from Wikapedia:

Chaos theory is the field of study in mathematics that studies the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions–a response popularly referred to as the butterfly effect.[1] Small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for such dynamical systems, rendering long- term prediction impossible in general.[2] This happens even though these systems are deterministic, meaning that their future behavior is fully determined by their initial conditions, with no random elements involved.[3] In other words, the deterministic nature of these systems does not make them predictable.[4][5] This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos. The theory was summarized by Edward Lorenz as:[6]

Chaos: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future.

Thus it is said that a butterfly flapping her wings in China has an effect on the weather in New York. Extrapolating from this law of chaos: What you do matters. In the simple act of breathing, you are participating in the making of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Could it be that our life’s play is a spontaneous emerging in the moment and not so much a script handed down to us? Instead of being conducted by a top down led orchestra with magical men waving wands to tell us how to play, what if we realized we were all partaking in a glorious jam session. Thus IS the essence of bottom-up music!

This also ties into the Buddhist notion of Dependent Co-Arising, which is the result of a collective (that’s us, folks), dreaming up the field while at the same time being dreamed by it (An introduction to this idea can be read at http://joannamacy.net/engaged-buddhism/dependent-co-arising.html)

Could this theatric play have been the process of your development in utero? Were you a jam session and not orchestrated or commanded to be? Was there a man there in your mom’s uterus making you up?

Who built us? A fetus does not unfold from a conductor waving his magical wand. She does so through her body’s intelligence (what I call Sophia or Wisdom, Prajnaparimita in Buddhist literature) to evolve. That evolution is from the inside/out, from center to periphery. This is in relationship to DNA codes, which manifest in accordance to the Earth’s atmosphere, etc. Again, everything goes into the creation of a baby and her DNA speaks to what she is going to encounter when she is born.

All the cells of a fetus’ body are interacting to create a fetus/baby/child/adult/old age person like the author. The baby, in essence, builds herself and we, in turn, as adults create our bodies in relationship to the environment and time. Intelligence is natural process and that process includes chaos.

This IS bottom-up for better or worse! Right now our top-down system is for worse for we have surrendered our power to a pile of sociopaths called Corporations. In so doing, we are destroying the planet while surrendering our freedom.

By speaking of our relationship to the environment and time, I am reminded of the primary thesis of Astrology. That thesis is that everything in the cosmos is affected by everything else. Thus, the alignment of the stars and planets speak to trends occurring in our lives. This is the macroscopic view of Bottom-Up management. The entire universe is involved in our behavior and we affect everything else. Thus, leave a drop of blood on a log and I bet microscopic creatures will feed off it! Then those creatures get eaten by bugs, who are eaten by birds and then, the birds are devoured by cats. It’s one big interactive dance with everything affecting everything else.

As Christ is born and dies for the sake of the world, then so do we all.

As the Bible’s “Book of Hagia Sophia” says of Sophia (Wisdom), “She pervades and permeates the entire world.” Wisdom is bottom-up! I would also add that She is the initial chaos of everything. Chaos is not about randomness as much as it is about the effects everything has on everything else. You, the reader, matters. Thus, no more feeling alienated!

We are the answer we’ve been waiting for. As much as Christ is said to be the incarnate Sophia of God, then so are we all. And, we are here for the sake of everything else. This is the ultimate message of Chaos Theory. What you do, think and say matters to all of us!

So why do we make such a mess of this planet? Easy. We attend to our ego consciousness and don’t realize the depths of our intelligence. It’s like mistaking a wave for the ocean. This ego mind believes he is the ruler of this planet and the body over which he thinks he is Lord. This is like looking at the 1% of an iceberg (the upper class) and negating the 99% of the iceberg lying beneath the surface.

Could it be we are co-creators of this planet? Based on the Republican Party theatrics and line up for presidents, what are we creating? Donald Trump? Is he a mirror to our own craziness? My answer is blatantly “yes!” Trump mirrors us. So do Sarah Palin, Hilary Clinton and others.

Are our problems with the lack of intelligence in the right wing Republicans a bottom up affair with us interacting with everything else? And what of the bought and sold Democrats? Yes, they talk a more intelligent game. Yet, how much has the “dumbing down” of the people been kindled by commercial television and standardized education (e.g., the No Child Left Behind Act).

Ah, drama shows keep us entertained and unquestioning, don’t they? Lets laugh at Sarah Palin and Donald Trump! “Keep them entertained via drama shows, soap operas and comedy,” say the powers that be! (I do think the popularity of Sanders is a positive sign of our movement past the drama show).

Is this drama the cue to go bottom-up?

In our development, both in Nature and within our self, there is a lot of what the Hindus call Lila, or Play. Play is more than theatrics or game playing. It speaks to the looseness, or the chaos (play=looseness) of the cosmos. The physicist Einstein upon meditating on the findings of quantum physics said he could not believe God played dice with the universe. With God there is no play? Yet it is said of His Wisdom in the “Book of Hagia Sophia”, “She is at play everywhere.”

Perhaps God is not as Top-Down as we have been led to believe? Sorry Albert! Perhaps God is not a control freak? Perhaps He/She is a gambler? “Lets see what happens when Trump takes the helm!”

Many call this notion of God’s throwing dice as Chaos Theory. Chaos Theory does not state that everything is through pure chance. Nor does it speak to Einstein’s top-down God. What it says is that everything affects everything else. I wouldn’t be writing this if I thought it would have no effect on your belief system and perhaps the belief system of the world. I am not one to disempower you, but to get you to look inside for what is the true Holy Grail, YOU!

In line with this process of my writing and your reading, you’re breathing out carbon dioxide that makes the trees love you. The trees in turn cut loose with oxygen, which you breathe in. Together, we create a planet! It’s a marriage in Heaven and on Earth. This is the essence of a jam session. Thus is James Lovelock’s “Gaia Hypothesis!” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis)

Burl is an avid writer and publishes to OpEd News. He is author of “Sophia’s Web: A Passionate Call to Heal Our Wounded Nature.” As of this writing, Burl is planning to self-publish the book. Alongside his wife, Burl co-hosts an on line radio show that seeks to give voice to visionaries of a just, sustainable and equitable future. The show is called “Envision This!”. Burl’s primary passion is in the unity of world religions to science and the holographic nature of the universe in which the part mirrors the whole.

Burl has a master’s degree in counseling psychology. He is currently retired from work that involved helping families with problem behaviors in their adolescents. From a larger systems issue perspective, this work helped to save the state money by keeping kids in the home.

The work Burl did with these kids helped him to consolidate a long felt intuition that the sociopathic behaviors of criminals, both adults and children, mirror the criminality of the primary system.

This helped to reinforce Burl’s interest in the holographic theory of physicist David Bohm as well as the neurologist Karl Pribram. Both of these men came up with the holographic theory independent of each other (yes, the did meet).

IN essence, the theory states the part mirrors the whole. As such, Burl will often say that how a fetus builds itself in the womb via the interactions of the parts, then so does the Earth. Indeed, as far as the Earth is concerned, this is the primary thesis of James Lovelock.

It is not so much that God is a Creator. She/He is Creativity and we are all cells within Her/His body. Chaos is simply a participant in creativity as reflected in Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching with Tao meaning the Way, or the Process (the Verb). http://www.opednews.com/articles/Can-a-Verb-Based-Language-by-Burl-Hall-Corporations_God_Language_Love-150404-907.html

The ball is not in the court of the top 1-5% ultimately. We have just surrendered the ball. Now, we need to take it back; no more surrendering our power to “The Man!”

The ball is in our court. By our, I mean everything on this planet inclusive of the cricket chirping outside my window. Yes, he or she does have an effect on me. Now that you are having some reaction to my words, the cricket is now affecting you and causing a reaction! We’re all in this together. Jiminy Cricket, think of that!

Burl’s job in writing is to try and flesh out this holographic pattern.

In addition to writing Sophia’s Web, Burl has written fiction. He has a fictional book titled “Mermaiden’s Tale” which is about a love affair between a man and a woman who wind up being on a different planet because the the Earth was being destroyed by the actions of the corporations and the government.

Burl also writes poetry. He is torn about publishing because poetry to him is highly organic and evolves constantly. Thus, Burl’s best works are those written several years ago which have been changed over the years.

This brings us to Burl’s basic message: Consistency is change. Everything in the universe is evolving in relationship to everything else. More than that, each one of us sparks an evolution on this planet in our being. Perhaps the best way to put this is that everything is in relationship to everything.

To use a simple example, as I type, I breathe out carbon dioxide, which the trees breathe in. The trees then breathe out oxygen which we breathe in.

The planet specifically and the universe in general is one system that is maintained in diversity. Could this be why the universe is comprised of “uni” or oneness and “verse” signifying versatile?

Or, as the saying goes, “all for one and one for all.”
