Today is Setubun (lit. Dividing Day from the old year to the new one). In Japan people celebrate this day, throwing roasted beans shouting “devils out, fortune in!” I was invited by a religious group to a ceremony celebrating this day, completion of two week winter practice. The leader, now 92 years old, addressed to the practitioners and participants that we ward off devils in our minds. He quoted his predecessor’s admonition: more precious than the treasure in the storage is that in the heart.
The Jordanian ambassador commented on today’s snow fall as purification and gift from God (water source). He quoted an Jordanian poem, which purport: “The pure mind sees the pure world.”
Pure mind makes pure land!
